Information for Parents

What programs are available?

Kids 4-6 years old with no soccer experience
The Big Foot Recreation District offers a youth soccer program targeted at young beginning players. This program is coached by the high school coaching staff and Varsity players. The program runs for about 6 weeks, one day per week. Generally, the program has been 5-6 PM on Wednesdays.
Kids 5-6 years old who already participated in the Big Foot Recreation program
The club offers an In-house league for this age group. The Fall 2012 In-house program will run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:30 to 5:30 PM from September 11 to October 11, 2012. The In-house program costs $45 per player and each player receives a ball and a t-shirt. Register online today.
Kids 7 years and older
Once they reach 7 years old, all kids are invited to play on club teams. The club offers recreational teams at all age levels and a few competitive teams.

Special Alert

Our area is desperately short of referees. We all share in this problem because if there is no referee, there is no game. Referees make sure games are safe and fair. Anyone can become a referee, regardless of previous soccer experience. It's time for you to help out! Please contact Keith Blakeman with any questions.

Season

Geneva Lake United SC teams participate in a two-part season, with seven-week sessions in the fall and spring. Your child will be on the same team for both sessions. Games for the fall session begin in early September, with practices starting mid-August. Games for the spring session typically start in late March or early April.

Schedule

The full half-season schedule is available on the Stateline League website. The coach of your player's team should provide you with a simplified version at the start of the season.

Practices

Each team will have one or two practices a week after school. Please make every effort to have your child attend all practices, as this is where they learn how to play the game. If a practice is cancelled for any reason, the coach or manager should contact you in advance. Please do not leave your child alone at the field before practice. Players should be picked up promptly at the end of practice. The coaches will not leave your child without adult supervision after practice, so please remember the coaches are volunteers and also have families and other obligations.

Playing Time

Every player who comes to practice regularly or who has an excused absence is guaranteed to play at least one-half of each game.

Canceling Games

Soccer games are played in the rain and light snow, so players should report to the field unless notified of a cancellation. Games are canceled by the referee, not by the coaches. You will be notified on the field if an individual game will be canceled by the referee.

Referees and Spectator Behavior

Concerns

If you have a concern about rules or club policies, please speak with your child’s coach after the game or practice, or contact the club president.
